The tradition of sharing the harvest with the less fortunate is as old as the harvest itself. Expressions of concern for helping feed the poor can be found in every major work from every major religion. The quote below comes from the book of Leviticus (Chapter 19), one of the oldest books in the Bible.

"WHEN YE REAP THE HARVEST OF YOUR LAND, THOU SHALT NOT WHOLLY REAP THE CORNERS OF THY FIELD, NEITHER SHALT THOU GATHER THE GLEANINGS OF THY HARVEST....THOU SHALT LEAVE THEM FOR THE POOR...."

The mission of the Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger is to channel precious natural resources into opportunities for a better community. Michigan, like many states, has experienced a boom in its population of white tailed deer in the 1990's and into the new millennium. The needy people of Michigan have benefited from this high deer population as the MSAH has worked to channel meat donations to charities that serve the poor. Founded in 1991, the MSAH is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization with a volunteer Board of Directors. Board members include representatives from across the State and the following founding organizations:
